It's January. It's cold. I miss green 💚 and thought today's field trip needed to go somewhere lush and colorful. So here we are at Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in Columbus, OH.
What a beautiful place!
So if you can't make it to Columbus, I urge you to go find some green. Maybe buy a houseplant or a bouquet 💐 of flowers to get you through today's winter vibe.

This Friday, throw joy around like tinsel.
My dad grew up during WWII, and one of the things that he always did was keep the aluminum tinsel year after year. He'd drape last year's used tinsel over the decorated tree, reminding us of sacrifices made during and post WWII.

Guess what, that used tinsel was one of my favorite things about trimming the Christmas tree. My dad spread Christmas joy around like confetti, whether it was silly songs, a plethora of mismatched lights (remember bubble lights?), the reading of scripture during Advent or The Night Before Christmas on Christmas Eve. Joy for everyone.

So yeah, throw joy around like tinsel. And keep it year after year, no matter what.

Snow angels were made in the cemetery. Dairy Queen was stopped by for a bit to eat. All-in-all, a little over 4 miles of just the best.

This field trip, go take pictures of pretty leaves, pumpkin patches, fancy coffees, delightful soups, or whatever gives you all the cozy, autumn vibes.

These beautiful trees are at a local cemetery not far from our house. I love to walk among them, always with a camera in hand. Occasionally, you'll catch deer 🦌 passing by. It's one of my favorite places to photograph.

The Jumbo in Toluca, Illinois. At now, 136 ft, it's a preserved slag mining pile and a challenge to climb, but so worth it. Take time to walk around the park dedicated to the long history of coal mining in Toluca, where at one time employed 771 miners, many of whom were Italian immigrants.

I found a couple of replacement CDs for tapes I wore out in the 90s. Found some Natalue Cole, John Denver, and Melissa Etheridge to take home.
